Second Infantry Regiment Association Home

Client Profile: 2nd Infantry Regiment Association

Client Profile

This client profile is for the Second Infantry Regiment Association. I worked with the president of the association, John Kerins, to redesign and modernize their website. The previous site utilized HTML and CSS files, with the update to the site the host provider remained the same however the hosting package was transitioned to be a managed WordPress hosting package.

I worked with the Second Infantry Regiment Association’s host provider to:

  • Coordinate the change in hosting packages
  • Transfer the domain name to the current managed WordPress host package after the WP site was complete
  • Update and apply the SSL certificate that was not utilized on the previous site

Approval and Communication Process

Most of my interaction with John, was done via emails after the initial call between the two of us to determine the scope of my services and a call between John, his hosting provider and myself to provide delegate access to the account for the Second Infantry Regiment Association. During the process of creating the redesign, I would take screen shots of the pages to provide John previews to the design, and I also made a video in which I showed the various pages and described what was on the page and if I had additional work to do on the page. And when I had a finalized version I created a new video and sent that out to obtain approval to release the redesign.

When I began the redesign the site looked like this:

Second Infantry Regiment Assoication Home

You may notice that on the right-hand side of the original site above you can see some images of various group insignia badges and the fourth one looks like it was cut off, and in a sense, it was because I captured a static screenshot and those insignia formed a moving banner. For the updated redesign I sourced the header banner image and selected the WordPress theme that is used. Additionally, I converted that to a non-moving banner, making updates such as removing some of the insignia by request, obtaining clearer images and finally re-sized the images in GIMP to the same size.

One page that underwent significant changes was the ‘History’ page, in the previous version there were subpages and within those pages, there was a link to documents.

For the new history page, I used headings and dividing lines to break up the visual space and create the individual sections that were previously individual pages.

By far the largest part of the project was moving the photo gallery. There are 12 galleries with a varied amount of photos for each gallery, some had captions and some did not, some of them had a horizontal orientation and some had a vertical orientation.

On the main page, there is an image for each of the individual galleries so the user can click on the image to select the gallery or select the gallery from the drop down menu.
